Theodora I was empress of the Roman (Byzantine) Empire and the wife of Emperor Justinian I. Theodora is perhaps the most influential and powerful woman in the Roman Empire's history. Theodora was of Greek Cypriot descent. Her powerful husband, Justinian I, listened to her advice regarding political decisions. She is credited with influencing reforms, such as expanding divorce rights regarding property ownership to women, as well as other rights for women and children. Then she died in Constantinople on june, 548. Olbia in Cyrenaica renamed itself Theodorias after Theodora. (It was a common event that ancient cities renamed themselves to honor an emperor or empress.)
